A Marseille soap without scent and color. The most common Marseille soap are the white soap flakes.
Real pure plant based Marseille soap is versatile and should be in stock in every household. The soap is traditionally used for the maintenance of Belgian bluestone and other natural stone floors. But is also very suitable for hand and machine washing and other applications. The soap is completely biodegradable and hypoallergenic.

Make your own detergent from Marseille soap flakes:
The detergent of detergents is detergent made from Marseille soap. Also known as Marsiglia. Marseille soap has a very unique but neutral scent that lingers in your clothes for a long time and gives you an ultimate clean feeling when you take your Marseille clothes out of your closet or suitcase. It doesn't look like any other detergent in its entirety. It smells very natural.
Please note this is a recipe for 5 litres of detergent so find a wide necked bottle, bucket or tub big enough for it. If possible use a bucket with a lid.
Wool detergent.
Take 5 liters of water and let it boil. Turn off the heat and add 80-90 grams of Marseille soap flakes. Stir well until dissolved. Put the mixture in bottles with a wide neck. Once it has cooled down completely you will see that it becomes thicker. With this mixture you can also polish natural stone floors, wash hands etc. etc.
Whitewashing detergent.
- Take 5 liters of water and bring to the boil. Turn off the heat and add 80-90 grams of Marseille soap flakes. Stir well until dissolved. Put the mixture in bottles with a wide neck. Once it has cooled completely you will see it thicken.
- For cleaning natural stone floors and colored laundry. Do not use soda. The soda will leave stains on the floors and slightly corrode the colored laundry.
- Use double the amount of a regular detergent 100 ml.
- It is a lot more environmentally friendly than most detergents and of course it is a bonus that it is also a lot cheaper.
Tip: Run your washing machine once a month (hot) without laundry and add cleaning vinegar. This will keep your washing machine clean, limescale and grease free. - For maintenance of natural stone, ask your natural stone supplier for advice.
- When maintaining natural stone, never use different products together.
- For maintenance of natural stone, use only the soap flakes, do not add any other ingredients.
- The sum: I buy 1000 grams of soap flakes for +/- 9.65
- 100 grams of soap flakes are needed for 5 liters of detergent.
- 1000 grams of soap flakes can be used to make approximately 10 x 5 litres of detergent.
- 100ml is needed per wash.
- That's about 0.20 cents per liter of detergent.
- Additions of essential oil for fragrance, soda (white wash only) and sodium bicarbonate make the soap more expensive.
Recipe for shaving soap (wet shaving). The soap is gentle on the skin.
- Take 90 grams of mineral water and 10 grams of Shea butter and bring to the boil.
- Turn off the heat and immediately add 20 grams of Marseille soap flakes.
- Add 5 drops of Tea Tree essential oil and 10 drops of Lavender essential oil, you can also add other essential oil if desired.
- Mix this well with the mixer until the Marseille soap is well dissolved and is a foamy mass.
- Place everything in a jar, container or bowl and let it sit overnight.
Before shaving; take a little shaving soap from the jar, bowl or container and lather it up with the shaving brush and water in another bowl by making a circular motion.
